THE PUMP -

Before the mains water came to Caerleon, people depended on springs and pumps from which to draw water for their use. The most notable pump was situated on a small common at the side of the Town Hall in Church Street. It has been said anyone leaving Caerleon who had drunk water from the pump would always return to Caerleon. The pump was dismantled and sealed off many years ago.

At one time Caerleon was full of wells and pumps. Why! In the courtyard of my cottage in Mill Street stood a bucket well, quite a deep one, with a pump for the use of the cottages. It was filled in many years ago. I now use the stone trough, which was under the pump to catch the water to grow flowers.
