Caerleon Town Hall 1880, competitors at the start of a race.
Caerleon Town Hall today. Above, September 22, 1880
Athletes, apparently lined up for the start of a race, outside Caerleon Town Hall. Note the variation in outfits and ages. The athlete just left of centre has an emblem and what appears to be the letters WCCA on his top - Welsh Cross Country Association?
Left, 121 years later…
The photo was taken during a lull in the traffic at this busy road junction. The barn has long gone. Caerleon Endowed Schools saw new building in 1907 and then 1930 when the Infant School (right of the picture) was completed. At that time the total number of pupils in the schools was 402.
